The Celebrity Spelling Bee

Our Birthday Celebration: The 20th Annual Celebrity Spelling Bee

A huge thank you to the hundreds of guests who helped Schoolhouse Supplies raise $162,000 at the 20th Annual Schoolhouse Supplies Celebrity Spelling Bee. It was an inspiring and fun evening at Revolution Hall on March 4, 2020.

The Celebrity Spelling Bee was as lively as ever. Poison Waters returned to the spelling bee stage as our Mistress of Ceremonies. Her quick wit and comedic magic set the scene for an unforgettable Spelling Bee.

Congratulations to Team KinderCare Education and Team iHeartMedia for earning the title of Spelling Champions. Spellers Cort Webber, Janine Wolf, Jenni Doyle and Krista Swan entered a spelling duel for the ages. Ultimately neither team could be bested and both teams were crowned 2020’s Spelling Bee champions!

All spelling teams did an amazing job. With OnPoint Educator of the Year Finalist, Joe Minato and The Fab Lab’s Lindsey Murphy, Team OnPoint Community Credit Union put their science powers together to analyze each word. Team Weird Portland United uni-cycled and embraced each feat with The Unipiper and The Cuddler. Rocket Mean and Holy HauteDish skated their way to the stage as Team Rose City Rollers, where they took on each word with a grand slam.

And presiding from the judges table this year we were honored to have Michael Powell and Emily Powell of Powell’s Books and Schoolhouse Supplies Board President, Jenn Lynch, moderated our cast of spellers.

The night was full of excitement and camaraderie, our guests showed up and showed out to support local students and classrooms. Thank you to our amazing friends! A special thank you to our special guest, Napoleon the Famous Alpaca. His good luck kiss helped Team iHeartMedia win and we are sure that guests who got a good luck kiss before the show will have a winning 2020.
