Engage youth. Inspire action.
Interested in coordinating a group of volunteers from your school or youth group? We have fun and rewarding volunteer opportunities for you! Volunteering at Schoolhouse Supplies is an excellent way to teach students about the needs in our community and how they can be part of the solution.
What would our volunteer team be doing?
Your team will work together to support the Free Store for Teachers. We have different tasks for different age groups and abilities. Tasks include sorting, tallying, and bundling donated supplies and preparing them for the shelves of the Free Store. The supplies you process will quickly end up in the hands of teachers and students who need them.
When can our team volunteer?
It depends on the season and availability, but, generally, volunteering hours are Mondays 9:30am-4:30pm and Tuesdays –Thursdays 9:30am-6:30pm.
How many people can we bring?
In the interest of providing a positive and productive experience for your team, youth volunteer group sizes vary based on age and ability. Each team must include adult chaperones according to the requirements below.
Recommended group sizes and chaperone requirements
Pre-K: 3-7 youth | 1 adult for every 2 youth (limited opportunities)
Grade School: 5-10 youth | 1 adult for every 5 youth
Middle School: 7-12 youth | 1 adult for every 7 youth
High School: 10-15 youth | 1 adult for every 10 youth
How long can our team volunteer for?
For youth teams, we recommend 2 hour shifts.
How far in advance do we need to schedule our volunteer group?
The group volunteer calendar is typically booked a month or two in advance, but you never know when we will have an opening! It doesn’t hurt to ask if you are interested in a last-minute group project.
