Checking in on the Free Store for Teachers

GLUESTICKS

In 15 years of operation, the Free Store for Teachers has provided free school supplies for more than 50,000 teacher shopping trips. These resources would not be available without the help we receive from our community members and partners.

As of this week, we have provided more than 3,000 teachers with shopping trips at the Free Store in the 2014-15 school year. As we head past the halfway mark of the year we know that teachers need to replenish supplies for their students, and we want to continue to be a strong resource for them.

Currently the Free Store has an abundance of several of the basic school supplies our students need: pens, pencils, loose-leaf paper, scissors, and rulers. However we are experiencing a shortage in crayons, dry erase markers, glue, glue sticks, and art supplies in general.

We are asking our supporters to help us restock out shelves by keeping us in mind. As you dive into your spring cleaning, keep your eyes peeled for any unneeded supplies. Or if you’re running errands at Target, or Fred Meyer, consider picking up a few items that students need most: glue sticks, crayons and art supplies.

Changes to what we can accept.

We rely on and appreciate your donations of new and gently used items. Check out our updated web pages to see what we accept and do not accept, due to limited space and classroom need. Please keep in mind that although donating partially used pencils and paper pads might seem helpful, those items are not necessarily useful for our teachers and students.

If you are tight on time or don’t have items to donate, you can always make a contribution online here. Remember, only $25 will provide a student with a year’s worth of supplies. Thank you for all of your support, let’s make sure that students end their school year with everything they need to learn and achieve!
