This summer we welcomed Dillon, Brandon, and MJ to the Schoolhouse Supplies team.
We were awarded the opportunity to work with MJ Helgerson who joins us as an Encore Fellow. The Encore Fellows Program matches seasoned professionals with local nonprofits in need of professional expertise for a 1,000 hour project paid for by the program. MJ, who is a Navy veteran, recently retired from a long career at Intel where she served in management roles including business operations, training, and human resources. For the next 12 months, she will serve as a contract Project Management Specialist, leading the analysis of our programmatic infrastructure.
This means that she will work with all of us to document our Free Store and Tools for Schools programs and to develop and implement recommendations for changes, especially related to program profitability and replication.
As volunteers, your insights are very important to MJ’s work. She will schedule interviews and opportunities for feedback, but you are welcome to provide your thoughts and ideas at any time. Over the next several weeks she will develop a workplan timeline so we are all aware of the process.
Brandon Umbarger is our new part-time database and program assistant tasked primarily with keeping the Schoolhouse Supplies databases accurate and usable. He replaces Kelley and Kari. Brandon grew up in Bend and after completing his studies at Portland Community College in June, will be starting classes at Portland State University this fall.
You may recognize Dillon Lewis as last summer’s SummerWorks Youth Employment Program intern. We were fortunate that both Schoolhouse Supplies and Dillon were accepted into the program again this year. The SummerWorks program matches young employees with opportunities in the community and pays their wages when they work for a nonprofit. Dillon’s 180-hour internship wraps up in just a few weeks. We will miss him and all the work he does for the Free Store for Teachers!
