KGW School Supply Drive and Tools for Schools Support Local Kids

September 11, 2017

Thanks to our generous community, tens of thousands of local children are heading back to school with access to needed school supplies.  Thank you for supporting the KGW School Supply Drive and Tools for Schools backpack program this back-to-school season.  Please read on to learn more about our amazing community and how we’re helping local students.

KGW School Supply Drive

Thank you to the hundreds of individuals and businesses who participated in the Schoolhouse Supplies fundraising appeal and the KGW School Supply Drive this summer.

Your back-to-school donations are already benefiting the 65,000 children whose teachers can visit our Free Store for Teachers this school year.  When a teacher visits the Free Store, essential school supplies are placed directly into the hands of students who need them.  KGW School Supply Drive product and financial donations outside of the Portland area support that community’s local school district.

Schoolhouse Supplies relies on the back-to-school season to generate fully one-third of the financial support needed to operate the Free Store for Teachers.  Thanks to your generosity, we are closer to our goal.

Tools for Schools

Thanks to the generosity of 27 local businesses and organizations, 10,403 low-income students in four school districts received school-supply-filled backpacks at the beginning of the school year. 20 high-need schools in Portland and Hillsboro were each sponsored by one or more of our partners. At each school, employee volunteers took time from their workdays to join the school’s students to pack and distribute the backpacks. Additional backpacks were distributed to the David Douglas and Parkrose School Districts.

A huge and heartfelt thank you to all of our dedicated sponsors. You are the best!
